Jan. 15th, 1909, H.D. Ludlow, undertaker, uses the first motorized hearse in a funeral procession, honoring the wishes of Wilfred A. Pruyn, a longtime taxi man, who happened to have a lot of influence with the Automobile Livery Chauffeurs Union. His wishes were to have an entirely horseless procession, and this was granted. Ludlow had a hearse made out of a Cunningham horse drawn hearse body grafted onto a Thomas bus chassis for the occasion. This particular vehicle was very popular, having another 13 funerals in the following 9 weeks, so it was replaced on March 22nd of that same year
